RULES

Steers

A.            All steers at County Show must be validated by June 30, 2024. NO EXCEPTIONS! 

B.            Weight limits for steers will be 900 pounds minimum and no maximum.

C.            Steers will be classified at weigh-in and divided into 4 divisions– ABC, British, Red & Black European Division and AOC European Division.

ABC- This group includes cattle that appear to include Bos indicus- influenced head, eye, and ear (of moderate length, slightly pointed, drooping and opening down and forward); showing Bos indicus influenced sheath

BRITISH - This group includes cattle that appear to be purebred Angus, Hereford, Polled Hereford, Red Angus, and Shorthorn.

RED & BLACK EUROPEAN CROSS DIVISION - Must have a red or black body cavity.

  •  Defined as the area behind the top of the shoulder blade down to the point of the shoulder and above the belly line.

  • White in the body cavity is only acceptable in the following instances: White is a continuation of the feathering

  • White is at the fore and/or rear flanks similar to Hereford color pattern

  • White spotting not collectively larger than 9 inches (basketball size) in diameter per side (cannot be all on the same side.

  • Skunk tail cattle are permitted provided the white above the rectum does not exceed the amount of white spotting allowed (basketball size).

  • Absent of diluter gene.

  • No roan or brindle cattle permitted.

 ALL OTHER EUROPEAN CROSS DIVISION - Steers of any coloration pattern are acceptable

 D.            Steers in each division will be divided at the discretion of the steer committee. 

E.            Each division Champion and Reserve Champion will be eligible for Premium Sale. Sale order to be determined by steer committee with assistance from the judge.

F.             Each exhibitor showing steers or heifers is eligible to show for showmanship.

Heifers

A.            All breeds of heifers, both registered & grade heifers, will be eligible to show.

B.            All breeds of heifers will be shown together. (No breed will be shown separately)

C.            Classes to be shown:

  • Young heifers, regardless of breed, grade, and/or registered.

  • Older heifers, regardless of breed, grade and/or registered.

  • Grand and Reserve Champion Heifers.

  • Showmanship, to include showmanship from the steer and heifer division.

D.            To determine if Registered Heifers are in the young or old classes, birth dates on registration papers will be used.

E.            To determine if grade heifers are in the younger or older class, the following tooth rule will be followed:

  • All heifers with all baby teeth intact will show in the young class.

  • If all baby teeth are not intact they will show in the older class.
