About TGCJLS
Growing Leaders. Inspiring Excellence.
Growing Leaders. Inspiring Excellence.
The Tom Green County Junior Livestock Show continues to be a proud tradition that celebrates the dedication, talent, and achievements of local 4-H and FFA youth. Each year, exhibitors from across the county come together to showcase their hard work through a wide variety of projects, including cattle, sheep, goats, swine, horses, rabbits, chickens, and llamas. More than just a competition, the show is an opportunity for young people to build character, responsibility, and leadership skills that last a lifetime. Through the “Quality Counts” program, participants also learn the importance of integrity, animal care, and food safety. Supported by countless volunteers, sponsors, and community members, the Tom Green County Junior Livestock Show remains a cornerstone event that honors agricultural excellence and invests in the future of local youth.
Our History
The roots of the Tom Green County Junior Livestock Show reach back to the early-to-mid 1930s, when it began as a small event featuring only lamb projects, held just before the San Angelo Fat Livestock Show. Over the years, local 4-H and FFA leaders expanded the event to include more livestock species, forming a dedicated Livestock Show Committee in the 1960s to guide and grow the program. The addition of cattle, swine, and later a horse division reflected the county’s deep agricultural spirit. With strong community partnerships—from the Farm and Ranch Committee of the Board of City Development to the San Angelo Lions Club—the show continued to flourish. In 1980, the creation of the Tom Green County Fair and Junior Livestock Show Association brought together civic groups, local businesses, and dedicated volunteers to ensure the show’s long-term success. Through every decade of growth and change, one purpose has remained constant: providing meaningful opportunities for the youth of Tom Green County to learn, grow, and shine.
